Advanced Mechanics
Students analyse circular and projectile motion in gravitational fields and apply physical laws and models to increasingly complex situations.
Year 12 Physics brings together complex concepts, mathematical problem-solving, scientific investigation and the application of knowledge to unfamiliar situations.
At Markitup, our Year 12 Physics program helps students build a deeper understanding of the course while developing the skills needed for school assessments and the HSC Physics examination.
Our Year 12 Physics program is aligned with the NSW Physics 11–12 Syllabus (2025).
The new Year 12 course begins in Term 4 2027, with the first HSC examination for the new syllabus in 2028.
Our experienced, high-achieving tutors guide students through the content, calculations and application required at Year 12 level.

The new Year 12 Physics course consists of four focus areas:
Students analyse circular and projectile motion in gravitational fields and apply physical laws and models to increasingly complex situations.
Students investigate the interactions between electric and magnetic fields and apply these concepts to physical situations.
Students explore the properties of light using scientific models and theories.
Students investigate matter, its relationship with energy and the role of matter and energy in astronomical events.
Each focus area has 30 indicative hours, with the Year 12 course comprising 120 hours including depth studies.
Starting the new Year 12 Physics course? Give your child a strong start.
By Year 12, students need to do more than identify and substitute into formulas.
We teach students to approach complex Physics problems systematically rather than relying on memorised procedures.
Want to see how we approach difficult Physics questions?
They need to understand:
Our lessons follow a structured approach:
Students learn the concept, work through examples with their tutor, practise questions and then apply their knowledge to increasingly challenging problems.
Lessons also provide opportunities to work through difficult concepts, school assessment questions, multi-step calculations, unfamiliar problems, HSC-style questions and written explanations.
Have a particular Physics topic your child is struggling with?
The HSC Physics examination requires students to integrate knowledge, understanding and skills from across the course.
The current NESA examination specification includes a 3-hour written examination plus 10 minutes reading time, with Working scientifically assessed throughout the paper. Section I is worth 20 marks and Section II is worth 80 marks.

Working scientifically is integrated throughout the Year 12 Physics course. Students develop skills in:
These skills are assessed throughout the HSC examination as well as across the course.
At Markitup, students practise explaining their reasoning and interpreting information, not simply producing numerical answers.
Want to understand how we prepare students for these skills?
Year 12 students can bring their school Physics work, assessment questions and difficult concepts to class.
This allows tutors to help students understand the content they are currently studying while continuing with the Markitup program.
Enrolled Physics students can also receive additional support before upcoming Physics exams.
Year 12 Physics requires consistent practice.
Students receive structured homework to reinforce concepts covered in class and develop independent problem-solving skills.
As students progress through Year 12, we increasingly focus on applying their knowledge to more complex questions.
Students practise moving from:
This helps students become more comfortable when a question is presented in an unfamiliar way.
Our program is aligned with the Physics 11–12 Syllabus (2025).

Year 12 Physics requires tutors who can explain both the concept and the mathematics behind it.
Our tutors break complex problems into manageable steps, explain the reasoning behind each method and challenge students to apply their understanding independently.
Our goal is not simply to help students complete more questions. We help students develop the ability to:
Give your child more support through Year 12.
Maximum 8 students so tutors can provide individual attention.
Students follow a clear program aligned with the NSW syllabus.
Students receive structured Physics booklets with theory, worked examples and practice.
Learn from tutors who understand both Physics and how to teach it clearly.
Students can bring difficult schoolwork and assessment questions to class.
Regular practice keeps students working between lessons.
Students regularly practise the skills needed for school assessments and the HSC.
Year 11 and 12 students can trial one lesson for every subject before enrolling.

Regular support throughout the year can give students more time to understand difficult concepts, practise problem-solving and prepare for assessments before the HSC arrives. Let your child experience a Markitup Physics lesson before enrolling.
The new Physics 11–12 Syllabus (2025) begins for Year 12 in Term 4 2027, with the first HSC examination under the new syllabus in 2028.
The four Year 12 focus areas are Advanced mechanics, Electromagnetism, Nature of light, and Matter, energy and the cosmos. Working scientifically is integrated throughout the course.
