Equilibrium
Students investigate equilibrium systems and the factors that affect them.
- Dynamic equilibrium
- Equilibrium systems
- Factors affecting equilibrium
- Equilibrium constants
- Reaction quotients
- Applying equilibrium concepts to chemical systems
Year 12 Chemistry brings together complex chemical concepts, calculations, analysis, scientific investigation and problem-solving.
At Markitup, our Year 12 Chemistry program helps students understand the chemistry behind the questions while developing the skills needed for school assessments and the HSC Chemistry examination.
Our Year 12 Chemistry program is aligned with the NSW Chemistry 11–12 Syllabus (2025).
The new Year 12 course begins in Term 4 2028, with the first HSC examination under the new syllabus in 2029.
Our experienced, high-achieving tutors guide students through difficult concepts, calculations and application questions.

Students receive Chemistry comprehension booklets containing:
The new Year 12 Chemistry course consists of four focus areas. Each has 30 indicative hours, making up the 120-hour Year 12 course, including 10 hours of depth studies.
Students investigate equilibrium systems and the factors that affect them.
Students investigate acids and bases using contemporary models and apply these concepts to chemical systems.
Students investigate the structures, properties and reactions of carbon compounds.
Students apply their Chemistry knowledge to real-world contexts, including the structures, production and uses of substances.
This focus area brings together chemical concepts and allows students to apply their understanding to practical and contemporary chemical problems.
By Year 12, students need to do more than remember definitions, equations and reaction pathways.
We teach students to connect chemical theory → calculations → evidence → application.
This helps students approach unfamiliar questions rather than relying only on memorised procedures.
Want to see how we teach difficult Chemistry?
They need to understand:
Chemistry calculations become increasingly important in Year 12.
Students practise applying mathematical relationships to chemical situations rather than simply substituting numbers into formulas.

Our lessons follow a structured approach:
Students learn the concept, work through examples with their tutor, practise questions and then apply their understanding to increasingly challenging problems.
Lessons can also include difficult schoolwork, assessment questions, chemical calculations, data interpretation, extended responses, HSC-style questions and unfamiliar problems.
Have a particular Chemistry topic your child is struggling with?
The HSC Chemistry examination requires students to integrate knowledge, understanding and scientific skills across the course.
Under the new syllabus, the HSC examination is a 3-hour written examination plus 10 minutes reading time. It includes a 20-mark objective-response section and an 80-mark section containing questions with multiple parts. Working scientifically is integrated throughout the examination.
Preparing for an upcoming Chemistry assessment? Book a free trial and bring along the topics your child needs help with.
Working scientifically is integrated throughout the Chemistry course. Students develop skills in:
These skills are an important part of both the course and assessment.
At Markitup, students practise explaining their reasoning, interpreting evidence and communicating their understanding, not simply producing an answer.
Want to understand how we prepare students for these skills?
Year 12 students can bring their school Chemistry work, assessment questions and difficult concepts to class.
This allows tutors to help students understand the content they are currently studying while continuing with the Markitup program.
Enrolled Chemistry students can also receive additional support before upcoming Chemistry exams.
Year 12 Chemistry requires consistent practice.
Students receive structured homework to reinforce concepts covered in class and develop independent problem-solving skills.
As students progress through Year 12, we increasingly focus on applying their knowledge to more complex and unfamiliar questions.
Students practise moving from:
This helps students become more comfortable when a question is presented in an unfamiliar context.
Our program is aligned with the Chemistry 11–12 Syllabus (2025).

Year 12 Chemistry requires tutors who can explain both the chemistry and the reasoning behind the answer.
Our tutors break complex concepts and calculations into manageable steps, explain the reasoning behind each method and challenge students to apply their understanding independently.
Our goal is not simply to help students complete more questions. We help students develop the ability to:
Give your child more support through Year 12.
Maximum 8 students so tutors can provide individual attention.
Students follow a clear program aligned with the NSW syllabus.
Students receive structured Chemistry booklets with theory, worked examples and practice.
Learn from tutors who understand both Chemistry and how to teach it clearly.
Students can bring difficult schoolwork and assessment questions to class.
Regular practice keeps students working between lessons.
Students regularly practise the skills needed for school assessments and the HSC.
Year 11 and 12 students can trial one lesson for every subject before enrolling.

Regular support throughout the year gives students more time to understand difficult concepts, practise calculations and problem-solving, and prepare for assessments before the HSC arrives. Let your child experience a Markitup Chemistry lesson before enrolling.
The new Chemistry 11–12 Syllabus (2025) begins for Year 12 in Term 4 2028, with the first HSC examination under the new syllabus in 2029.
The four Year 12 focus areas are Equilibrium, Acid–base reactions, Organic chemistry, and Applying chemical ideas. Working scientifically is integrated throughout the course.
