The program

A Complete Year 11 Physics Program

Markitup has developed its own structured Physics program aligned with the NSW Physics 11–12 Syllabus (2025).

The new syllabus begins for Year 11 in Term 1 2027.

Lessons are taught by experienced, high-achieving tutors who can break down difficult Physics concepts and guide students through challenging problems.

What we teach

What We Teach

The new Year 11 Physics course consists of three focus areas:

01

Fundamentals of Mechanics

Students develop their understanding of motion and events using scientific laws and models.

02

Waves

Students investigate the properties and behaviours of waves and apply models to explain wave phenomena.

03

Electricity and Magnetism

Students explore electric and magnetic fields and the interactions between them.

These three focus areas make up the Year 11 Physics course, with 120 indicative hours including 10 hours of depth studies.

How we teach Physics

Physics Is More Than Memorising Formulas

Knowing a formula is only the beginning.

Our lessons focus on helping students understand the relationship between:

Students practise applying their knowledge to both familiar and unfamiliar questions.

Want to see how we teach?

Students need to know:

  1. What does the formula mean?
  2. When should I use it?
  3. What information does the question give me?
  4. How do I set up the problem?
  5. Does my answer make sense?
Inside the classroom

What Happens in a Markitup Physics Lesson?

Our lessons follow a structured approach:

  1. 1Learn
  2. 2Understand
  3. 3Practise
  4. 4Apply
  5. 5Review

Students are taught the concept, work through examples with their tutor, practise questions and then apply their understanding to more challenging problems.

Students can also bring their schoolwork or questions they are struggling with.

Practice & assessments

Regular Practice & Assessment Preparation

Physics becomes easier when students regularly practise applying concepts.

Students also receive support preparing for upcoming school assessments.

Physics assessment coming up? Book a free trial and bring along the topics your child needs help with.

Our program gives students opportunities to:

  • Consolidate new concepts
  • Practise calculations
  • Apply formulas correctly
  • Interpret graphs and data
  • Analyse physical situations
  • Solve multi-step problems
  • Explain their reasoning
  • Answer extended-response questions
  • Practise HSC-style questions
New syllabus skills

Working Scientifically

The new Physics syllabus places Working scientifically throughout the course. Students develop skills in:

  • 1Questioning and predicting
  • 2Planning scientific investigations
  • 3Conducting investigations
  • 4Processing data and information
  • 5Analysing data and information
  • 6Problem-solving
  • 7Communicating scientific arguments using evidence and scientific terminology

These skills are integrated across the Physics focus areas rather than taught separately.

At Markitup, students are encouraged to explain their reasoning, analyse information and communicate their understanding clearly.

Want to know how we support these skills?

Support With School Physics

Students can bring their schoolwork, assessment questions or difficult Physics concepts to class.

This gives students an opportunity to connect what they learn at Markitup with what they are currently studying at school.

Enrolled Physics students can also receive additional support before upcoming Physics exams.

Structured Weekly Homework

Understanding Physics requires practice between lessons.

Students receive structured homework to reinforce what they have learned in class and continue developing their problem-solving skills.

Homework helps students:

  • Consolidate weekly learning
  • Practise calculations
  • Apply formulas independently
  • Identify areas they don't understand
  • Work through challenging problems
  • Prepare for upcoming topics and assessments
New NSW syllabus

Aligned With the New NSW Physics Syllabus

Our Year 11 Physics program is aligned with the Physics 11–12 Syllabus (2025).

  1. Term 1 2027The new syllabus starts for Year 11, replacing the previous Physics Stage 6 Syllabus (2017).
  2. 2028The first HSC examination for the new syllabus.
  3. Year 12Year 11 knowledge is treated as assumed knowledge for the Year 12 course.

Starting Year 11 in 2027? Give your child a strong start from Term 1.

Experienced, High-Achieving Tutors

Physics can be difficult when students understand the formula but not the concept behind it.

Our tutors focus on explaining why a method works, not just showing students what to write down.

Students learn how to approach problems systematically, check their working and communicate their reasoning.

The goal

Build Stronger Physics Skills

Our goal is not simply to help students complete more questions. We help students develop the ability to:

  • Understand physical concepts
  • Apply scientific laws and models
  • Use formulas correctly
  • Solve multi-step problems
  • Interpret data and diagrams
  • Analyse unfamiliar situations
  • Explain their reasoning
  • Communicate using scientific terminology
  • Work independently

These skills are important throughout Year 11 and provide the foundation for Year 12 Physics.
